As Éric Champagne, Director of Operations for MEXX Canada, explains, the company's old system was obsolete and had serious limitations in terms of speed and capacity. “It was hindering the company's growth. Now we can carry out a greater number of operations at the same time and—more importantly—faster. For example, the electronic processing speed for a customer transaction has increased fivefold, from 15 seconds to less than three. That has really improved our customer service. What's more, our network is not only faster but more stable and durable, and because it's scalable, it will be able to keep pace with our growth.”

After finishing installation of this new equipment on schedule, Bell began working on a second solution for MEXX Canada: connecting the company's platform to the Bell Electronic Business Network (BEBN). This second project, which should be completed in spring 2004, will extend MEXX's LAN to its 47 Canadian locations and further improve the network by enabling the company to deploy a host of new secure, transparent applications.
“We'll be managing our inventories and approximately 980 customer accounts in real time,” explains Mr. Champagne. “And that's on top of everything we have planned in the way of human resource management and training, telework, internal audits, marketing, rationalizing our business processes, detailed analysis of all our operations, etc.” Like all the other BEBN users, MEXX can count on seeing significant savings in time and operating costs.
